As a homeschooling mom, I find myself organizing and re-organizing all the homeschool stuff. I have posted one post before on how I organize. I find I will post something once I find it works. I don't know how many times I have moved things around in the last 2 years but I guess it is ALL a learning process for sure!
We recently went and used up the last of our school funds, since the end of the year is coming and they do expire. So we went down to a local store and picked up a few things.I got a few things for the rest of this year, over the summer and next year. We are still a bit behind on reading so I made sure I got a few reading games. I will be doing reviews on things for now on. I really want to see what will work or at least what they enjoy to try and help. I want to continue school sort of through out the summer. Maybe just keep to unfinished books we have taking up room and focusing on problem areas to fix next year.
So after we get home with this huge haul. I had no clue where to put it all! My homeschool cupboard was already over flowing and disorganized. Sometimes when you don't have KID FRIENDLY organization going on it can make more of a mess then nothing. I thought I had it good FOR ME but for the kids ... not so much.
I had it so all subjects had there own spot. which was nice and tidy (SEEN HERE IN MY LAST ORGANIZATION POST) but then the kids would go put something back and they would just shove things in places or would put them in just messy and even sometimes just put them on top of all the other books. So after the haul and feeling the NEED to change things up I got on Pintrest of course and searched and searched for homeschool organization ideas. I found this neat Idea using milk crates and file folders. I knew I just happen to have two crates around the house. One is was using as a stool in my room! So I started by completely emptying the cupboard, and I didn't get any before pics sorry. I didn't really think i was going to go as far as I did with the organizing. I mainly planned on cleaning and moving things around.
So I pulled everything out and this is what I ended up with. Scary! I know!
So I got out cupboard all cleaned out, in between searching pintrest. Tried a few different things and that's when I came across the crate idea. I went and grabbed them and went and started collecting file holders. I was so happy I got everything I needed from just around the house.
I have a file holder for each subject. Then a file at the beginning of each subject, where they can put all there finished work. Then all there books, fillers and everything else for each subject is within each of the designated files for subjects. Then at the very front I have a file for unfinished work and a spot for their lap books. This I am so excited about! It has been working so well. No more getting mixed up between who is who's. They each have their own crate and I think having their books separated was a big thing. we don't have a lot of space since we do everything out of our kitchen, so choices we slim and I am very happy I found this idea.
Then back to the rest of the fun ... NOT but it needed to be done! I got everything back into the school cupboard and this was the out come! Bottom shelf is the boys' crates. Shelf 2 is bins with their pencils and earasers, glue adn scissors. Then all of Kahlens work, anything for K and down I put there. Then shelf 3 I put more bins full of flash cards and counters and so on, then some more work books. Then shelf 4 is all the games. Then the top is my teachers manuals and all my fun stuff. So it turned out pretty good adn I hoep this one works out.
So I was doing so good I decided to tackle our little book shef. It was a bit easier but I do plan on start color coding them all so the kids know what to grab, if they want to read something to do with science, then i can just tell them to grab a RED book for example but I need to go get colored tape or something. Here is our little book shelf nwo though.
So that is now our little homecshool area organiazation and as much as I wish I had a nice big room for school or more room for more shelves I think this will work just fine!

I am horrible when it comes to cleaning my stove, I am so grateful for self cleaning ovens but the burners get very neglected! I usually bought burner liners here and there but I always forget and end up torturing my burners and then I found the answer!
Step 1: Clean your burners
Get your tin foil and tear a piece big enough to cover your burner and have a few inches extra.
Start folding the foil around the burner but make sure you start at the bottom. Push the foil along the bottom all the way around to prevent taring. Just work your way around.
Fold all the foil over the edges so that the hole burner is completely covered in foil.
Then put burner back together.
And TA DA! A clean oven you can easily clean and replace the foil as long as you haev foil and no more scrubbing to death and spending money on the stupid liners!

If you have kids like I do that make a mess of their dresser drawers buy digging through it then everything you put together suddenly gets separated. Here is a trick to fold clothes together. Works very well for PJ sets but also any pant and shirt sets.
Fold each item in half.
Lay the shirt on top of the pants
Fold the end half way over
Fold the rest of the way
Its still about the same size folded together as it is just one on top of the other so no space loss and its just one simple grab and you have the out fit.

So I have mentioned a few times in my Mothers Homeschool Journal and wrote a post about my WONDERFUL new Ultimate Homeschool Planner, so I thought I would show you a little more about how I keep organized. Since it is almost the end of the month and I have to start planning for next month, I wanted to give an update on what has been working and what is not working so far this month.
So I start by filling out my Ultimate Homeschool Planner. I fill out the weekly section a month at a time. So I plan every month but weeks and days. So each day I know exactly what pages or lessons I will be doing.
So then I found these kicking around the house. I think i put them away a while ago hoping to find a purpose for them. They are nice folders and nice and colorful. So after filling out my Ultimate Homeschool Planner, I was looking at all these books and felt the weight.
So I went and grabbed these I think the next day and came up with using them for folders for all the work pages we plan to do through the month!
So each subject is a different color and inside I put 2 folders, one for each child. So for the math folder is blue and inside each folder has pages 1 - 40something and in my planner we do one page everyday. So instead of grabbing a pile of books out. I just need to pull out my little folders. It cuts down on a lot of work and time if rummaging through each book looking for what page we are on.
This system also helps with something I was HORRIBLE at last year! A few times within the school year we need to hand in portfolio's of all the kids work. I was soo bad at that. It would be the day before and I'd be on the living room floor surrounded by books and papers trying to get everything organized to hand it. So I had this lovely organizer lying around the house and I was using last year to put school work in but is was crammed in my very unorganized school cabinet. So I manged to save it from the depth of destruction of my cabinet and I found these nice blue inserts from walmart on clearance for $1.25 each! So the boys each have a set and as soon as they are done there pages, I mark them right then and there and they get stickers and happy faces if they did a good job and it goes straight into its section. I have these also organized by subject and by child, so no confusion!
Then once portfolio time comes all I need to do it empty each folder into a big folder for each child and hand it in! Easy Peesy! No muss no fuss.
Then I put this on my little teacher stand/ bookshelf area. So it is right there in our faces and not tucked away in a cupboard where I will forget about it!
Now if only I can figure out how to keep this cabinet of doom organized! This is a before and after shot. The before was taken like 2 days before school started and the after i took just now. It is horrible! This is also what happened last year and why I would get lost in papers, which i got that figured out this year but this cabinet needs help!
So there are a few things that I do to keep organized and some ... not so much! But the folders and planning I did successfully all month and I plan on continuing because it is working! What do you guys do to keep your school organized! Even post links and share your tips and tricks!
